It’s a bullseye! Youngsters celebrate free entry at Royal Three Counties Show
Today (Friday 24 May) some of the region’s agricultural notables gathered at Hereford Cathedral to launch the 2019 Royal Three Counties Show, held in association with JCB.
For the first time ever, this year’s show is welcoming all under 16s free of charge in a bid to encourage the younger generation to embrace agriculture.
To mark the announcement, children from Hereford Cathedral School also attended the launch alongside Ronaldo the Hereford Bull from The Bounds herd form Westons Cider Mill.
The show will also be holding a ‘Schools go free Friday’ on the 14th, welcoming over 3,500 children to take part in curriculum-related agricultural activities.
TV presenter and Official Show Ambassador Adam Henson attended the service, along with civic dignitaries and 50 invited guests. Adam came to the show from a young age, taking inspiration for his career today. He said: “I’m delighted that children under 16 now have this opportunity for free entry and that I’ll be able to share my knowledge and passion for farming and agriculture to inspire the next generation.”
Head of Shows, Diana Walton said: “Visiting the show as a child was an annual highlight and I’m delighted we are able to welcome all under 16s free of charge allowing all children to enjoy a great day out while learning more about our regions heritage. Education is at the very heart of the society.”
Lindsey Craddock, County Director of Worcestershire Council, said: “This means that many children can come to the show that maybe couldn’t in the past. Hopefully they’ll have an enjoyable day, learn something new and see all the great things that the show has to offer.”
Following the launch service in the Cathedral, guests were invited back for a reception at the Green Dragon Hotel, to celebrate their new refurbishment and the historic ties between the hotel and the Three Counties Agricultural Society.
Last year saw a landmark celebration of the 60th anniversary of Royal Three Counties Show being held at Three Counties Showground in Malvern.
Attracting over 90,000 visitors across the weekend, Royal Three Counties Show is the Heart of England’s premiere celebration of rural life and the countryside.
Royal Three Counties Show will take place from Friday 14 June until Sunday 16 June. Tickets are now on sale. Advanced tickets are from £21 for adults, with under 16s going free for the first time ever this year.
